Critically Injured

The Critically Injured Program was developed to help first responders who have been critically injured in the line of duty and/or have been hospitalized for more than five days.

With this program we are able to provide monetary assistance to the first responders for unexpected expenses.

The program began with Ray Shappa (Smithville police officer) and Mike Guerra (Austin police officer). Officer Shappa, while directing traffic at the scene of a fire, was struck and pinned between his and a drunk driver’s car. Officer Shappa sustained serious leg injuries resulting in an amputation.

After he was injured in an accident on Highway 71, Officer Guerra had severe memory loss to the point of not recognizing his own family. After a year of rehabilitation, his memory substantially returned.

This program has been funded by community partnerships, calls for donations and fund-raising events.

Please consider donating to the 100 Club to support critically injured first responders.
