Each year The 100 Club of Central Texas awards college scholarships to active-duty first responders which include college tuition for two semesters. We are now accepting applications for first responders to receive free higher education assistance.
 
We will award the scholarships again this year at our 25th Annual Awards Banquet on May 6, 2008. Named for Dr. M. James Moritz, the founder of the program, first responders receive scholarships to be used for tuition, books and associated expenses at an accredited institution of higher education beginning with the summer semester 2008.

 

Eligibility

  • Be accepted for admission to the school
  • Be employed as an active duty first responder in one of the counties served by The 100 Club of Central Texas: Travis, Hays, Williamson, Caldwell and Bastrop
  • Have permission from their chief executive officer
  • Be enrolled for a minimum of six semester credit hours
  • Maintain a grade point average of 2.5; 3.0 for graduate students
  • Continue to maintain employment with their respective employer throughout the scholarship period and must show steady work towards a degree.

 

Undergraduate:2.75 minimum GPA (overall: First 60 Hours).Maintain a minimum 2.50 GPA during the next 60 hours. Payment is made after review of official transcript containing 9 hours of undergraduate completion after being accepted into the scholarship program. 

Graduate
:
3.0 minimum GPA (overall: First 15 Hours).Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA during first 60 Hours. Payment is made after review of official transcript containing 6 hours of graduate completion after being accepted into the scholarship program. Failure to comply with these requirements could result in the loss of scholarship funding. Federal first responders are not eligible to apply. Deadline: March 28, 2008
  

How applicants will be evaluated

Applications are evaluated by The 100 Club Scholarship Committee with each applicant evaluated on academic achievements, financial need, extracurricular activities and leadership in your department and community, work experience and letters of recommendation.


Scholarship Administration

Disbursement of funds will be made directly from the 100 Club of Central Texas for payment of fees and expenses to the accredited institution of higher education. Payments will be made in one or more installments, depending upon the size of the scholarship. 
For additional installments, the first responder must send a progress letter to The 100 Club of Central Texas with proof of a minimum 2.5 GPA; 3.0 for graduate students (official transcript) and a plan of continuing coursework.


Scholarship Committee  
The 100 Club of Central Texas Scholarship Committee reserves the right to award scholarships or to discontinue funding of any scholarship at our discretion. Scholarship recipients must begin using their scholarship within the year that the scholarship is awarded.
